7900 gt knockout!!!

Hey guys, I am prepared on purchasing my new Pc parts and will b going 2 build me a new gaming system, The proble is, I read reviews and was told the the 7900 gt, higher end versions of this card, spanks the x1900 xt performance wise. Now I know that the 7900gt is a step downgrade fromthe GTX version. I really need to know If the 7900 gt will really outperform the x1900 xt?? I know that the x1900 xt uses 48 shaders in the card, but is that really necessary?? I mean will I see a performance difference when I play my highend videogames?? If I can save a few on the 7900 gt and will also perform better than the x1900 xt, then let it B!! I'm just not sure which will benefiet me more.

Since when does a 7900GT spank an ATI x1900XT? If memory serves that is nowhere near the case (I could be wrong though, I'm not looking at any reviews right now).

Someone else that knows the details better than I will probably reply also, but bottom line is that x1900XT > 7900GT.

The X1900XT or XTX(hardly any difference) demolish the 7900GT. However, the GTX is pretty much on par with them.

Nevertheless, the 7900GT is a very powerful card.

Read this review, it uses dual 7800GTX's SLI comparing to dual 1900XT's... and uses recent ATI and nVidia drivers...
The ATI driver improvements since Dec have accellerated ATI's lead even further...

I was going to buy my system this week, now I need to go and revise my build since I will be getting a x1900 instead of the 7900 and had an SLI mobo picked.

Okay so the ram on the x1900xt is much lower than on the gt, but is it the arcitechure that makes these 2 cards different>>??, I'm just eager to know which one will be better for my money, I want the x1900 xt but I'm a little tight on money, but then again I'll take power over money anyday.

RAM on the XT and GT is actually the same only the XT is clocked lower, once you get your hands on it you can rectify that problem.

The reasonf for the difference in performance is largely architectural, ATi has move to the 'unbalanced' shader approach which gives it a heck of alot of grunt in pixel shader intensive games.

I just remember them, and when you're stuck at work sometimes bored, there's little else to do on these fairly resticted machines.

The other thing is remember I was getting all ready to build a fresh one if I had trouble playing Oblivion, so I like to know what I'm getting into.

It's all a question of free time really.

1900XT is defineitly better than any 7900 GT hands down. And this is coming from a guy with a 7900 GT oc'ed at 560mhz/1600mhz. The 7900 GT is a great card and handles almost every game out there on resolutions like 1280x1024 but you'll have some pretty bad frame drops in some situations in the newer shader intensive games.

The 1900 xt has 512mb of memory which is a big plus as it minimizes stuttering and frame drops from textures being loaded into the larger GPU memory. Core clock is faster than the 7900 GT and it has 48 shader pipelines. I'm actually about to sell my 7900 GT which has a Vf700 on it and buy a 1900XT which is around $434 on Newegg (oem version).

Alright so I know that the x1900 xt has 512 mb of onboard RAM, but does it help me Future wise, when better games come out, will the x1900 xt perform?? I'm quessing it will but why triple the shader units? Lower the clock speed? and drops its ROP's from x1800 16rops to x1900xt 12rops?? I mean what good does that make, why the performance drop on the x1900xt and 48 shader units, do even games support that many shades??

7900GTX = x1900xt

7900GT ~vs~ x1800xt or x1900 vanilla

but in terms of bang for the buck its the 7900GT hands down.

If you want the best card you can buy than its your choice of maker, where each one fails the other succeds. Now if heat is an issue then spend your money towards the 7900GTX since it runs cooler with less power.

Alright my final choice is................. The x1900xt, its not worth the money x1900 xtx to pay an additional $200 for an extra 25 Mhz of speed, all that you would have to do is 2 overclock it a tad bit and you get the same performance as well as the x1900 xtx. My other question is will a 500watt psu be sufficient to power my rig;

There's a lot of opinions posted but just remember that whatever you do buy will be old hat 6-12 months from now. I bought a 7800GT 3 months ago and now the 7900 GT is out for a similar price. ATI and nVidia are constantly leapfrogging each other. Once you're into the really high end cards you're paying a 30% premium over the next layer below for waht amounts to a 5-210% difference in price

Well thats always the case in every industry. Clothes, electronics, games, etc. Something new and better always comes out soon. Thats how the business is. Soon the 7900 gt will be outdated, then a 8800 GT will come out, and in like 6-9 monthes it'll be outdated. New things keep the market moving. If Gpu card never got outdated then we would still be on voodoo cards and 5200FX cards, and Nvidia wouldnt have made like 25 cards over the last 10 years. Same with ATI.
