Succinctly put elmano.

ImperfectCircle, The 1600 is definitely geared towards augmenting a hardcore media box more than a gaming rig. Also, very few games make use of 512mb framebuffers just yet. I daresay the concept is only ideal for dual-card buyers interested in future-proofing their rigs.

On another note, if you're not locked into a choice between those two cards, might I suggest the X800gto with its unlockable shader pipes? It may just be your ticket to a cheaper x800xt if cooling permits.

The x1600 is getting a pretty bad wrap these days.
Before the 7600GT I had/have an X800XL.
It is a very capable kick ass 256bit bus card.
Either way, if you're getting a card and you want something good for low $$ consider either the X800XL or the new 7600GT.
The 7600GT sits on a 128bit bus but at normal res (1024x768) it can kick the pants off the XL sorta, but if you want heavy AA ability over 2x then you need the strength of a 256 bit bus card...I recommend the X800XL or possibly the newer X1800GTO.

x1600 series is kinda weak. You'd do better with any of the 8xx cards.
7600GT is another option though x850XT or even x800gto are better products for the money.
x1800gto beats the 7600GT but it needs some price cuts to become a good buy.
