Hello,
My pc is spiking up to 100%. It just started yesterday. The items running up the percentage are my normal programs but running at way higher than normal. i was running adaware and it took up 50%. i have 6gb of memory so the amount of space is not the issue.
i did adaware. norton. i also ran hihack this and it did find some suspicious items but i can't seem to delete them. any ideas other than bringing it in to a shop

Try Malwarebytes.org. They have a free utility you have to download each time you run it in order to stay up to date or you can pay for a license and receive regular updates.

When people have issues at my office, a lot of times this will remove things the virus scanners don't even detect. We've had some success with this tool. Ironically, the virus scanners suddenly "see" things they never saw previously while Malwarebytes runs its scan and clean procedure.

you will have better luck running an antivirus scan with the computer in safe mode, it will free up a lot of resource space.
and after you get the viruses out...
you will have better luck deleting all free security programs from your computer and running a professional antivirus such as norton, panda or kapersky.

i have norton already running and it showed no issues. same with adaware. hijackthis did show a number of suspicious items but i can't remove them.
i also tried to do a system restore from a week ago but it won't work.
does it make more sence to just save my personal files and have someone completely clean my drive and start from scratch. I know it is a hassle reloading all my software but that seems like it might be the easiest solution.
I just ran malwarebytes but nothing found.

Your personal files could also be infected. Definitely back up your files, though. You can scan them later, but I wouldn't put them on your new load right away.

If nothing is finding your issue, it's either wait until a Norton update leads to the fix or take control.

If it were me and no scans took care of it, I'd re-install Windows.

it appears reinstalling windows is the best idea. I have no idea how to do it though. I have an HP and i think it is loaded in a separate drive. I know i forgot to make backups when i first purchased this machine. is it easier to just pay the money to have someone do it for me.

i am including my hijack file. Maybe there is something there that is obvious. As i mentioned what is happening is that whatever process is running it is taking up about 10 times more memory than it normally does. can that be a virus or something wrong with the memory itself. Any ideas would help.

CPU usage. When i opened up Internet Explorer to read this it used about 25%. When i tried running AdAware that used up 50%. If i ran them together and maybe one more item i would max outat 100% and basicall freeze the computer. Before this all started i rarely ran about 25% total.

My RAM is 6gb and has been starting at about 25% and now up to 40%. When i reboot it goes back to 25 and then increases again.

I have run Malwarebyte in safemode but it found no errors. I did download it in regular mode if that makes a difference. There was an additional software item i ran from this site and i can't recall the name. It found about 1500 registry and other errors. I didn't purchase it so it only cleared about 100 of them. Can this also be an issue. This all started rather quickly yesterday.

Virus and malware scans are huge CPU hogs. What does utilization look like when you're browsing the web?

it spiked to about 35% when i opened IE to read your reply. then it spiked to 50% when i turned on process explorer. norton is the only virus scan i have running all the time. each time it does it's background check i bump to about 25 and normally i see almost nothing when it is working.

even in idle i am still running 5-10% and normally i am at 1.

use that tool and tell us whats causing the huge resouce hog and what processor do you have

my pc used to spike up to 50% when there was a irq conflict
