Okay, I have been trying to install Knoppmyth (Myth TV bundled together with Knoppix) onto an old box I have. I have never gotten it to boot to cdrom, no matter what I do it tries to go to the hd, which has nothing good on it, so it won't start at all. I was checking stuff, reseating components, and now I get a checksum error on every restart, with a message saying press F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup. Neither does anything. What could be causing this?
Okay, I found that there was no response because the keyboard was unplugged . This still doesn't explain why it won't boot from a cd or floppy, if a harddrive is connected it defaults to it even though the bios is set to do floppy, then CD, then HD-0. I also found that it will boot from the CD if I switch the scsi cables from the hd to the cdrom. What's going on?
Problem solved, I found that the CDrom wasn't enabled in the bios settings, so it wouldn't boot to it (Duh). It said boot from cdrom first, but then the secondary master was set to none instead of auto, so the hd took primary master/slave, and the cdrom just whirred away with no response. All is good now.
