Im interested in overclocking my AMD 64 3200+. This is my first time Overclocking and i'm interested in how far i can push the 3200+ with stock cooling. I have an AMD64 3200+ (Winchester) socket 939 @2.0ghz. Can someone tell me if i can push it up to 2.4ghz with stock cooling and what programs are needed to do that

My specs:
AMD 64 3200+
ASUS A8V Deluxe
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro
OCZ 1Gb Premier Series
Maxtor 160gb HDD
Antec Sonata 1

Thanks in advanced

OK , OK . Lets See , I Think The Best Stable OverClocked AMD 64 3200 (Venice) 939 Was OverClocked To 2800MHz ... But With Water Cooling !
With Stock Cooler ,I Thinks You Are Able To Push It To 2300~2400 MHz ...
You Dont Need Any Program To Do That For You ... Just Use Your Bios Setup But Remember To Monitor Your Temp Always ...
For Getting Started :
1-Reduce The HTT Multipire From 5x To 4x
2-Reduce Your Memory Freq From DDR400 (200MHz) To DDR333 (166MHz)
3-Increase The CPU Voltage To 1.45
4-Increase The Chip Voltage To 1.55
5-Disable Cool&Quiet Technology
6-Increase CPU Freq From 200MHz To 210
Run Prime 95 For +12Hours For Stability Test ... If Stable Then Increase The CPU Freq To 220,Test Prime ... Then 230 ... Then 240 . OK Thats It . I Do Not Recommand To Go Higher Than 240 With Stock Cooler ... But If You Higher Than 240 Increase Your Memory Voltage To 2.7 or 2.8 Because Your Memory Will Past 200MHz If You Go Above 240 (240x10=2400MHz)
...Sorry Guys If I Missed Something Else ...
My OverClocking Settings Are :
CPU Voltage =1.45 , Memory : @ 200MHz 2.5-3-3-7-2T @ 2.6 Volt , HTT = 4X , HTT Freq = 240x9=2160 ,NF4 Chip Voltage = 1.55
& Its Stable in Prime95 For 12Hours , Max Temp =38 C

My HTT Multiplier is set at 10x... so do i just lower it anyways to 4x? and do i also change my ram speed back up to 400mhz?

Nah man, don't change your CPU Multiplier to 4x, change your HTT Multiplier from 5x to 4x. Set your Memory to DDR333 in the BIOS.

Alright thanks for the advice. HOwever the only thing im worried about is about the voltage part. I'm afraid i'm gonna fry my cpu or something :?

You Do Not Need Much More Voltage For 400MHz OverClocking , & 1.45 Volt Is Not That High To Fry Your CPU ... But It`s Your Choice ...

i got my 3200+ from to 2.0ghz to 2.4ghz with stock hf and voltage.
the only difference is that mine is a venice E3 revision core.
but i'm pretty sure you could get upto 2.4ghz easy.
i hope this helps.

you can hit 2.4 ghz easily.. just make your RAM timings 2-4-4-6 (if the normal timings are 2-3-3-5) and max the multiplier X11.. then change the FSB (Stock 200) to 219.. that makes your RAM run at DDR438 instead of DDR400 and your processor gets OCED..

make sure your timings are like.. 2 numbers higher than the timings say on your memory.. other than the first one (Cas Latency) keep that at 2.

With Stock Cooling and Volts I've oc'd my 3200+ (but a venice) to 2.4ghz no problems CPUZ Validation. Ran Prime for 13hours to check it was stable. It could do a little more, 2.5 seemed ok, but my memory just couldn't keep up without dropping the divider too far.

In terms of programs, as PX7800GT says, you don't need any specifically, use your Bios, but I'd recommend Speedfan to monitor your CPU temp so you don't cook it!
