currently I'm running a homebuilt system that's past the point where its showing its age (current specs)

AMD Athalon XP 1800+ (1.53 GHz)
ATI RADEON 9600SE 128MB (AGP)
1 GB RAM
ASUS A7S333 MoBo (SiS chipset)

currently planned "upgrade" (might as well call it a new system all together)

ATI X1900XTX 512MB PCI EXPRESS
AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4400+ (TOLEDO)
ASUS A8R32-MVP DELUXE ATI RADEON XPRESS 3200 CHIPSET
2X KINGSTON 1GB PC3200
ANTEC 550W PSU

ATI X1900XT is all you need. The XTX is not worth the extra money. Do the research you will see a gain of maybe 10 FPS with the XTX over the XT.

Other than that, nice upgrade.

yeah, I realize the only difference between the XT and the XTX is GPU speed, and that the XT can be OCd to that speed. however, of the two hardware sites I've been looking at, neither seems to have the normal XT with any regularity. I've seen refurbished XTs, Crossfire Edition XTs, and XTs by ASUS et all, and I'm not completely certain on whatever drawbacks if any there are from non ATI RADEON cards.
