I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a socket 939 motherboard with support for Optiron 165 that can run DDR2? I'm asking, as I'm interested in upgrading to AMD, but my current Intel mobo has 2gig DDR2 533 -> and that's the last thing I want to replace right now. I'm not sure if AMD supports DDR2 right now?

Yup, the processor won't support it so the board doesn't matter.

Vokofpolisiekar, If you have'nt been looking around the fourm much most of the talk is speculating around AMD's New socket the "AM2" This Socket is Comming out with the Motherboard it'll Be able to support DDR2 533Mhz and rumored to be also support DDR2 1066 And If God(AMD) wills it might also support the Upand comming DDR3 :D

AMD will not support DDR@ until they release there new AM2 socket... Ungrading to AMD would still be a great idea though as DDR2 hasn't proven its dominance yet, and AMD's built in memory controller quickens things. Enjoy :D

Thanx for all the replies!

Admittingy, I'm a bit too lazy too browse all the forums, so sorry about that one! But dialup is a pain in the bottom...

I was really blown away by the Opti's performance, so much so that I'd sell my P4 right now to convert! But the DDR2 is a problem, as I already said - I do not wish to spend too much on such a convertion - and getting a new Mobo and CPU is the top for me

NEcase, I'll be looking forward to the AM2 though... It will probably be a socket revision aswell? I read some nice stuff on the upcoming memory controller of AMD, dunno why Intel still sticks to Northbridge. All that latency...

The AMD dual-channel DDR1 memory controller is in the CPU, so it isn't a 'board thing', it is a 'CPU thing'.

Come AMD processors on Socket AM2, yes, you'll be able to run DDR2 dual-channel with AMD desktop processors.
