old mainboard bios update

hi,

i tried to install windows xp on my old pc but i got message that i should update my bios of my mainboard. The problem is i don't know the manufacturar of the mainboard. I know only this numbers visible at begin of starting pc. 04/14/200-693-596-8673-IA6LGC3CC-00

Any suggestions ar welcome

Did you look at your motherboard? Most will have the manufacturer and model number stamped on there.

I had an old FIC motherboard for my K6-3 450. It never did load XP for me, even after I updated it.
I still get a little choked up...

Seems to me you have a:

Chaintech 6VIA3

according to the manual it supports max 256MB per slot for a total of 512MB; therefore, you need to exchange the 512MB for two 256MB.

For the Flash Utility go to

and click on BIOS Flash Utility on the left side
