as per the lastest review of tft vs crt from tom and his hardware, they concluded tft was definately not for the graphic designer. why then, does macintosh not issue crt's with their newest models anymore?

Because Tomshardware is hardly the last word on graphic design!

by the way, Apple have phrase out stand alone crt for more then 1 yr already, and with the new imac coming online, their entire computer lineup will be lcd based!

One reason is the reduced color gamut of an LCD as compared to a CRT. CRT's have a wider color spectrum (More saturated colors). CRT's use phosphor to create colors, LCD use color filters. LCD's also tend to suffer from brightness uniformity more than CRT's because of the arrangement of the backlights and reflector.

Also I would assume graphic designers would want to calibrate their monitor colors to their printer. This is more difficult to do with an LCD, again due to the reduced color gamut.
