OK, do socket 940 motherboards (for example, see link) that say they are compatable with dual Opterons need two Opterons to run, or will one suffice?

I was looking at getting just a single core Opteron 250. Would this work with the above motherboard if I only used one, or will I need two?

Without going to the mfg website, I'm 99.9% certain it will work fine with a single cpu.

Of course it will work, I have that exact board in a Server. You just make sure to put the RAM in the correct CPU DIMM's and check a diagram because you have to put that CPU if you're using 1 inside CPU0 slot.
