My friend, is about to buy a new graphics card. He owns a mobo with an Intel845G with an AGP 4x slot  .

He just want to obtain decent frame rates on games like ES IV. Oblivion with all the settings at medium or high.

a review on guru3D.com indicates that artifacts show up when they unlock these 4 extra pipes. does this mean, it's a tough luck to find a 6800GS which is unlockable?

what's the difference between the 6800GS and the GT version? I know that the GT has 16 pipes straight out of the box, but performance wise. which is more efficient and better?

I Just had this same dilemma a few weeks back. I talked to several people on here, and narrowed the search down to the 6800GS and the X800GTO. Both are 12 pipelines both are 256 mb only, and both have 256 bit speed....

I went for the X800GTO for the following reasons:

1. Cheaper
2. More widely available.
3. The 6800GS has Shader model 3, but is probably too weak to use it.
4. The X800GTO has a high success in overlocking
5. Some people seem to test it faster

are u sure? coz my 9600xt renders too much artifacs even at stock clocks compared to my 6600gt

Comparing a 9600xt to a x800 is a joke. Every brand makes bad cards... and they make good ones.

But either way a 6800GS or a X800GTO are your best bets.
