Hello guys

I got an old athlon xp2000 palomino core and i think its time to change. Its been 5 years since i bought it and when i got the cash for a new PC i had to buy a Laptop. Well since im in college I CANNOT SPEND TOO MUCH CASH so no Athlons FX ok?
Heres what i have in mind:

CPU Athlon X2 4400 or a PentiumD with the same firepower (any ideas?)
Video: A 7900GT or a 7800GTX? Maybe an ATI X1900XT (wich one should I pick?)
HD: This one is hard: should i get me a Raid0 7200RPM HDs. The RAID0 should go with SATA2 (burn baby!). Space aint the problem since my laptop has an aditional 100GB.
No worries about memory cause ima get 1giga and later on another 1gigabyte

I need this system to run some engineering programs and of course max out some of my games like NFS Most Wanted. Is this good stuff to put together or should i change anything?
Regards

since your in college go with the opteron 165
overclocking is very very easy , its a dual core server class CPU and its cheap

-opterons do wonders with numbers

as for the video card go with the 7900gt , it beats the 7800gtx for almost half the price -there about 300$ on newegg

and with the raid setup , its up to u

and find a good mobo , maybe an Epox , DFI , or Asus

u should be kool

Totally agree, tried to seach for a cheaper x2 processor from the opteron family and got none, the other choice would be an x2 3800+, but for 30 bucks Id jump off a cliff (just like Willy E. Coyote, Super Genius) to get the Opteron

Vidcard=7900=300$=WOW!!!

Also, if you care about image quality during games, get a X1900XT, but a 7900GT is a very good card and will last.

Have to add that excellent video is combined with fastest frame rates...
And if you are into video editing, the AVIVO encoder built in puts these cards in a class of their own.
