Getting a new video card and am soon going to purchase. Looking at the EVGA 7900GT but many people say the x1800XT is better and cheaper so I won't complain. Problem is I can't find any Canadian x1800XT's cheaper than a 7900GT. EVGA 7900GT's go for $400 CAD so if anyone could help me out finding an x1800XT for that price or cheaper id greatly appreciate it. woot canada :p

Yea I know what you mean, but thats not even the thing that bothers me. The prices are totally different over here. I can't find a x1800XT even close to the same price of a 7900GT. I can find a 7900gt for around $400 CAD but the cheapest x1800XT I can find is $500+. Similar in pricing? I think not.

You won't find an XT cheaper, you'll find the XL, but the XT is a vestige of the previous generation that kinda got pigeon-holed so not many deals out there people just keep their old prices where they were.

Here's the best of the big boys; an HIS X1800XT-256 for $435 @ TigerDirect;
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1904389&CatId=0

Seems everyone else has their XT prices jacked up near launch prices (some X1900XTs I saw were cheaper than X1800XTs  ).

Not quite the same selection as the US unfortunately.

The thing is to look for sales, but right now there's very little from the usual suspects like CanadaComputers, Anitec, Shoprbc, NCIX, GreyTech, etc.

the x800gto2 when unlocked is a formidable apponent.

and you have to take into condideration the price/performance

the x800gto2 costs 224.95$ canadian

the ATI Radeon X1800 XT / 512MB GDDR3 costs a whopping 597.99$ canadian

Connect3D Radeon X1800 XL / 256MB GDDR3 costs 406.99

eVGA e-GeForce 7900 GT / 256 GDDR3 costs 409.99

for a canadian right now the best deal for a video card is between the x800gto2 and the 7900 gt.

so PLEASE dont say that for 373.04$ MORE the x1800XT is worth the money compaired to an unlocked x800gto2. YET for 185.04$ you could say the 7900gt is worth the upgrade.

P.S x850xt 256MB ( an unlocked x800gto2 ) compaired too a x1800XT 512MB only yields a 28% performance increase.

so for 28% in performance your willing to pay 266 % more in price. wow i wish i had your bank account.

*.* these prices were averaged from 2 sites. www.tigerdirect.ca and www.memoryexpress.ca *.*

Your performance figures are old really.

And second look at the X1800XT I posted. $435 for that is a far better choice than the X800GTO @ 225. And yes the $210 difference is worth it for someone looking at a hi end card.

Remember he's probably moving from something already, and if it's anything like an R9800Pro or better, then the X800GTO is going to offer him nowhere near the boost the X1800XT will, which I would say makes it and the GF7900GT the only choices for upgrading.

Please tell us where you can get this X1800XT for 435$

i would really like to know where.

Perhaps you should re-read the thread might help you ALOT!

Well in a sense you're right, it used to be $435 when I first posted it, but lookee here now it's $408!

So does that make it a better deal now? at less than $200 difference?
