You all might of heard the fact when the x1800xt finally became available to the public after its utter defeat by its rival the 7800gtx :D
So why the late release?? The x1800xt doesnt come close to compete against the 7800gtx 512mb in most benchmarks. The 7800gtx's 24 pixel-pipeline architecture,vs ati's16 pixel pipeline. The x1900 series still only have 16 pixel pipeline but sports48 pixel shaderunits, just like the 7800gtx, coincidence? dont think so. ATI states that the increased number of pixel shader units will not only enable the chip to handle more pixel shader operations simultaneously, but the new processor can also handle longer and more complex shader instructions than the previouse generation.
the x1900 series will do 166 billion operations per second wheras the x1800 series only delivered 60 billion operations per second. So a total boost of 106 billion ops a sec, not to shabby. Not only that but the x1900 series uses less transistors, cuts it rops by 4 an is still able to perform better than the last generation cards from ati, but guess waht?? My personal opinion is that ATI stole the Idea from NviDia, now im a ATI fan, as much as I hate admitting it, it is the true [H]ard fact

You can get 512mb x1800xt's for $330 or $340.
The cheapest 512mb 7800gtx is $410.

I am only comparing Newegg prices here assuming that pricing is uniform enough across retailers.

So if the 7800gtx performs better, well.. um... it better!

Anyone that buys a 7800 GTX right now deserves to be stoned. Unless it is for SLi purposes, but that would be the only reason.

dude, learn some simple english before you make a topic like this. i cant even understand what youre trying to say. the bad grammar and misuse of words are confusing and make your ideas seem very unreliable and false

To be honest, based on your start, I'll quit reading right there. What's your point besides coming off looking like a fanboy-troll with a twisted view of reality? The X1800XT beat it's rival...the 7800GTX 256MB. But NV was holding back on perfomance in the drivers, so the X1800XT's victory wasn't as much as ATI would have liked. That took the sting out of ATI's X1800XT launch. But the X1800XT was still faster then and looks even better now in comparison.

Then NV kinda launched a 512MB GTX to regain the lead, but at $800 and almost as rare a 100Lb chiwawa, the 512MB GTX was hardly a competing card with anything except ATI's X1800XTpe maybe. Let me ask you, if Matrox produced 50 cards that could outdo the X1900XTX and 7900GTX, would that make them the current leader in gaming cards?

Back off Matrox, man!

HEy ever notice how after the Cat 5.2s the GF7800GTX-512 as losing a few benchies despite the ridiculous price?

Must be that delayed start or whatever.

I'd also like to find out this calculation for the shader units, because it sounds to me like someone didn't know the difference between the full and mini ALUs found in both architectures.

Damn n00bs!

The X1900XT can easily become a X1900XTX with a simple bios flash. Performance varies game to game, but it is generally better then the 7900 GTX in shader intensive titles.

how would you bios flash a XT to become a XTX, i know they are the same ecept the XTX just has a little hight clock speeds and mem speeds, like 50 MHz or something, but would you have to download the XTX drivers to do that??? and by the way, it is OEM

The XT CAN reach XTX speeds, but since thhe XT uses 1.26 ns memory and the XTX uses 1.1ns memory, the XTX will always have the most overclocking potential on the memory side of the equation.

But the XT is the best bang/buck, and overclocking is simple. For a BIOS flash read up alot , and I mean ALOT, you can do alot of damge with a bad flash. Check out Rage3D, Overclockers, techpowerup, etc and make sure you back up the original.

It's not an easy process, but it can be worth it. Just be sure you know it's a risk.

Screw bang for buck, if i could get an xtx over an xt for just 600 bucks (ZAR)extra i would. I have to pay > $1000 (R7500) for one of these cards, if i get it here, so IMO, go xtx all the way! $50 is nothing so get the xtx. Also flashing your bios can go wrong, and faster ram is always better for a good oc. Just my undervalued 10cents (south african).

lol. I love that it's become fashonable for Nvidia fanboys to claim they are Ati fans. I guess Ati'ers are more trustworthy and they want to capitalize on that? :)

Hey Bluntside, have a look at the Oblivion review @ firingsquad where a single X1800 XT slams a single 7900 GT in every single case...

I think the story on the X1800XT delay was in the silicon. They were having problems with current leakage above 550mhz (sound familiar? Intel had the same problems. I think SOI may have saved AMD from facing the same problems).

Anyway, after they worked out the leakage, they resold the old XT chips as XL devices.

I think those are the facts. 8)

Turns out that wasn't the case, that was the rumour. They actually had problems with a 3rd party portion of the chip and they had to trouble shoot it to find the culprit. That came out after the X1900 was released, the rumour was the leakage, but that wasn't the case.

Nope.
