Hello, I know this as been asked numerous times before and so sorry if I'm re-hashing repeated stuff :? . I have yet to see any thing about this and I'm having a hard time trying to find any info. Here is what I have a 9700pro and I believe it is on its last leg. I want to upgrade, but not to PCI-E quite yet (that is off for another year or two). What I currently have is a AMD 64 3200, 1gig ram, MSI Neo-Nforce 3 mobo. I have been trying to find a video card that is an upgrade for around 150 - 180. Any suggestions? I know this is going to be difficult but any help would be greatly appricated

You want at least a Radeon X800 GTO or Geforce 6800 GS (aka geforce 6800 in AGP)

i wouldn't bother with a 6600, you won't see much of a performance boost over your 9700 PRO.

How would this card stack up to 9700pro or 6600 GT?

Never mind, I read the above post and it made sense to me

Aim for a 6800GS. NV40 based PCB that can unlock 16x1 5vp.
Then while your at it, you could flash the 6800UE BIOS and throw on
something other than the stock cooler and have yourself one hell
of a card for a reasonable price.

FYI if your 9700pro is ATI branded it probably came with 5 year warrenty if so ATI will replace it with at lease a 9800.

Standard warranties even for ATI carry 3 years, and I highly doubt they
would upgrade your 9700pro. I've only had one upgrade experience, and that was through powercolor. I sent back my X800PRO twice and after recieving it the second time, they upgraded me to an XTPE.

THe First round of ATI branded 9700pro card that were shipped were 5 year i till have my warrenty papers for mine which i double checked last night to make sure i was correct. Due to the high failure rate on the 9700pro ati was replacing the card with 9800pros. I personally know of 5 people that this happened to.

Why not stick with Ati and get an X850Pro that you can flash to a X850XT. Just look at THG's agp guide... http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/07/05/vga_charts_vii/page4.html

I know this guide is a lil outdated. Looking at the other cards you are considering, the x850 easily beats them all. You can say that the 6800 gs at best is on par with the 6800 ultra and the 6600 is just crap.

Just search x850/x800 pro flash to xt and you will find a lot of guides.

I bought my x850pro a few months ago and never regretted it even after the 6800gs and 7800gs came out.

Good luck

if you have the money, go for the x1800gto  Perfromes much better than a bios flacshed x850 xt, has sm 3.0 and image quality is far more superior.
