OK, background
Windows XP Pro. Athlon XP 1900+
512 DDR RAM, 7200 RPM 100G

Indexing is ON, and when I search 1 folder for a document
with a certian word in it, it takes forever (> 5 minutes)

There are only like 100 documents in this folder it was
searching fine, and after I installed SP2 it takes way too
long..

Since a lot of files got replaced by the service pack, have your
defragmented your drive(s) after the service pack install (after first
purging the Recycle Bin and temp directories)?
