The eVGA works well with the old 20-pin connector (it is how I have it set up w/ my X2 3800) and your aspire should have enough to power it without issue.
If you can splurge for the X2, it is $296 shipped @ newegg it may be well worth the investment for the extra $83 if it won't kill your wallet...
