Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on updating my graphics card. Working on a limited budget (hopefully spenind no more than $200) I would like to update my graphics card from the ol' nvidia geforce 6600 GT that I've had in there for some time.

AGP 8X
128 MB RAM

I'm running a 64 athlon 3200 + on a gig and a half of ram.

What I'm looking at right now is here:

I have to stay in the agp market for the time being, so if anybodyc an offer advice it would be greatly appreciated. I recently bought Oblivion and am having a blast, but decided I could use a better graphics card finally as I've been putting it off for some time now. I don't expect to run the game full blast, but a bit better would be nice!

You might want to look into upgrading to pci express, thats what im about to do.
All it is is a change of motherboard, iv got a 3200 also its socket 754 but you can still get pci motherboards for them, and motherboards are pretty cheap.
AGP is getting phased out and your only gonna have to switch anyway.

An X800 will not give you much of a performance increase. In fact, you might actually see a decrease in performance. There really isn't a card for AGP that would be much better than your current one (at least for $200)

Somebody had told me that 754 sockets were being phased out as well. I don't have the cash to update into pci for the time being. Maybe I'm stuck with a lower end card for the time being.

Surprisingly, socket 939 is being phased out before socket 754 because 754 has all the cheapo Semprons. Socket 939 is due to be phased out at the end of this year. If I were you, I'd wait it out with your current card, and save your money for AM2.

Thanks for all of the advice so far. I've looked at a few cards from the link up there. I'm not quite sure what I'll do yet. I'm a bit tired of lower medium range graphics though.

hrmmmm
