I've got an opteron 165 on a DFI NF4 board with the titled ram, now with all things default my ram was running at 167mhz, lame, so I thought I'd push that right up to 250 to start, since that's it's stock mhz, so I increased the FSB or HTT whatever you wanna call it to 250 and lowered my HTT multiplier to 4, ran memtest and it failed horribly. I then went back to 200FSB and set my memory divider to 1:1 (which I realized was on auto and running the memory at less than the HTT) and tried memtest at 200mhz and failed instantly.. what's going on here? do I have dud dimms or? this is my first time attempting to overclock, I may jsut be missing something simple.. even though all I'm trying to do is get my memory at least running at stock speed, and bringing up the cpu a bit to do that, which should be fine for the opty 165.. suggestions please

Try running a multiplier of 7 instead of 9 so the CPU is still at its stock frequency with the FSB at 250MHz.

I've never really dealt with DFIs.
