yet another upgrade question

1 of my 3 machines has a socket 754 with an a64 3200+. this setup i will add is single channel on the memory.im lookin at a socket 939 setup that runs dual channel memory however the cpu im lookin to get is a socket 939 3000+ venice core my current cpu has a clawhammer core would the slightly slower [same l2 cache size] going from single channel memory to dual channel memory and going from a 130 to a 90um chip would i be upgrading or downgrading i will be useing all the same components other than cpu and board

Your 3200+ socket 754 runs at 2.2 GHz. while the 3000+ socket 939 only runs at 1.8 GHz. so unless you're willing to overclock your 939, you'd be taking a step down. The dual channel memory won't make up for a 400 MHz. slower speed.

That being said, you'll probably be able to easily overclock the new 939 to the same 2.2 or higher so you could make it a step up... but probably just a slight step up. Your 3200 754 ain't a bad rig!

yeah, i think you got a pretty decent machine... is it agp or pci-e?
anyway, i think you can safely skip one generation and upgrade directly to am2 instead of going 939
