Well my compute is a Dell Dimension XPS

Im using a 80 G Maxtor currently
I bought a 250 G Maxtor last night.

I installed the the new un formatted HD and changed the jumper settings to master (80Gig) and Slave (250Gig)

I rebooted and went into bios. Change the settings to Auto detect.
The 2nd hard drive is now seen in bios.

Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management .... only the one main HD

The new hard drive is not listed in device manager or anywhere.

Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management

Go to Disk Management on left column.

Should be able to see the new HDD there. Right-click, Assign drive letter/format, enjoy.

This might be a long shot, but try moving your CD/DVD-ROMs/burners to different drive letters.

Maybe it got assigned a conflicting letter.
I've had that happen to me w/ a USB drive, but it still showed up in the Disk Management...

You could 'low-level' the blank HDD, then try again... but you'll need some Maxtor utility. I think the Ultimate Boot CD would have it.

Can you stick it into someone else's comptuer and see if that computer can see it? Then you'd know if it was just your computer or not.
