Hi everyone,
I posted on this forum about 2 weeks ago asking about upgrade options for my 2.8Ghz P4 system - running on an ASUS P4C800-E mother board.
I had 1Gb of ram and a 9800xt graphics card. I am happy with the CPU and the motherboard so...

I decided to get the following:
6800GS (256Mb) graphics card
1Gb RAM
400w PSU.

I went for the 6800GS instead of a 7800GS as this is meant to be a 12-18 month stop-gap system, and this seemed to be a good trade-off.

I am happy with the results so far. Some testing I have done:
[code:1:84ea0e5469]

Item Old Upgraded System.

3DMark06 - 1019 2386
Fear 21/34/70 31/64/70 (min/ave/max) fps
BF2 ~30fps ~40fps (quick test only).

With Fear
-the fps distribution went from:
below 25fps 3% 0%
25-40 fps 73% 20%
above 40fps 25% 80%
[/code:1:84ea0e5469]
BF2 was a quick test only and the ftp appeared to go from 30 to 40 (at 1024x768 Aa 2x).

I haven't got any figures for Oblivion, I left it running at the old resolution of 1024x768 and looks fantastic - I guess the v3 shaders are the difference here. I am still in at the first dungeon level - I never got to test the outdoor levels with the old card.

In summary, I am very happy with this upgrade, if you are doing similar don't forget to look at your power supply.
