Whenever I load certain pages I get a loud popping sound (hard to
describe - perhaps I should say a loud boink, very high pitched!) or it
could be described as the sound of water drop hitting water - a blurp - only
much louder.

There are a couple or more pops during and after http://www.cbs.com/ loads
for
example.

I have pop-up blockers - all are set to no sound. It doesn't seem to be
related to pop-up blockers.
I am running XP IE 6.0.29

Very annoying when I am trying to listen to music or web broadcast. Any
ideas?

If you have PestPatrol installed, you will need to disable the
CookieCrunch.wav file. If PP Systray icon is
visible>right-click>cookiepatrol>disable sound.

You may also disable it permanently by re-naming the cookiecrunch.wav to
..wav old.

Heh! It is THE most annoying Alert I have ever heard, so I'm with you on
this. Just as a gag I changed the .wav file to something else as a joke. Of
course, I quickly got over it, but here it is:

(Warning - Not for the timid, or under 18 yrs of age. This might possibly be
offensive to some.)
http://unclebubby.dnsalias.org/wav/wav/MOVIES/JohnnyDangerously/bastige.wav
http://www.moviewavs.com/cgi-bin/moviewavs.cgi?Johnny_Dangerously=farg_war.wav
Again, definitely NOT for the timid... although the pronunciation has been
"doctored", the gist of it comes through loud and clear.
