My bro recently bought a 7900gt, I hope it was the right descision
NE ways, he want to know how to overclock it, what tools he should use, and what speed is he going to reach, The card is stocked at 500mhz core and runs memory at 1.5ghz, I dont realy know much about Nviaida cards so any info will be helpful :D
His system is

The probel he has is that he loves spending $$$$ when it comes to building pc'c and he says that he is going to get another 7900gt and run it in SLI, iF he does< will performance increase noticably??

Thanks Guys :D

Well, a utility like coolbits or rivatuner will likely do it, but I have to ask, WHY ON EARTH does he want to overclock it now? But hey, that's just me.

As far as the speed he'll reach. Flip a coin and call it in the air, because if overclocking was an exact science then card makers wouldn't make any money selling high end cards.

Find your card in the article I posted there, and read how much those guys OCed it. Should give you an idea of how much you can push it.

Welll I was just looking at his card and it seems that only the core is cooled, not the ram modules??
What's up with that?? If you are going to OC the damn thing, you'll need to have coolage on those modules, otherwise the ram will heat up then freeze, possibly damaging the card, right?
I dont know much about Nvidia, I've got a x1900xtx, an it cools everything, unlike the 7900gt, Should he get some heatsinks for the ram if he is going to OC it ??

Ne Help would be appreciated

I Dont Think So Prince , Because Leadtek 7900GT Extreme Edition Comes With 110MHz More Memory Clock & 50 MHz More GPU Clock & It Has The Same Nvidia Cooling Solution , But If You Like You Can Get An Arctic Accelero X1 Or NvSilencer 5 rev 3 For Better Cooling

Why would you pair an FX60 with a 7900GT?

For the same reason that people will buy a Dell or HP with 2GB RAM, Pentium D 940, and an ATI X300. It's all in the marketing, and his brother has fallen for the AMD marketing. As for me, I'd never spend over $300 on CPU or a graphics card.

Dude ...stop..right now and punch your brother in the face and tell him NO!.

Do not overclock the damn 7900 GT for christ sakes...the entire point of overclocking is to get better performance..he's already got the best performance there is. He should only attempt to overclocking in like a year and a half when his card starts to slow down with games. Not NOW!! The only thing he is going to get now is 2 more FPS, 10 more degrees of heat and he'll free the damn card. Stop him dude..or let him read this...overclocking a 7900 GT won't bring anything good when you weigh in the bad.

Er...you can OC the 7900GT to GTX preformance....why is that a bad thing? (assuming you have good enough cooling). And you'll get way more than +2FPS....

It would piss me off, as well. That CPU cost more than my whole system. Yay; another person who's staying up all night and posting on the forums. I'm fueled by Coke and Snickers; how 'bout you? It's 2:56AM here in Michigan.

Never say never.

My P4 is dying; idle temps of 50C in the crappy old HP case (replaced) were probably killing it. It shuts down at random. I'm getting an A64 3700+, which is $212, and MAYBE an X1800GTO/XL/XT, all of which are under $300, except for the 512MB XT, which I wasn't even considering. I'll also probably get a new PSU; Antec TPII550 or the like.

Heh I;m staying awake of PBJ w/ ice cold milk while my parents a dreaming away, and my bro playing cod2 on his golden pc.
Before puchasing my x1900xtx, I was really considering getting the x1800xt 512mb, but then I got a present from my parents, was extra $$$, so i decided to go with the x1900xtx!!, great way to spend $550 on technology.
Little overpriced but hey, thats how we keep our economy on its feet,

bit late but...

ive oced my xfx 7900gt (standard ed, not extreme or xxx), to the optimal settings determined by the forceware drivers, and its gained max 5 degress C , after playing oblivion for and hour or two it was around 60C, less than half the threshold temp

also ive noticed that the design of the heatsink on the 7900gt would cause air from the fan to be expelled over the ramchips, which would give them some cooling

If you really want to OC it, how about a voltage mod??
All you need is silver conductive pen and some effective cooling.
Result: Max GPU: 650MHz, Mem:1750MHz
This is the link http://www.coolaler.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=424
I apologize as the review is in Traditional Chinese but you can still see the pictures on where you must connect to get the extra voltage.
It gives you voltage options as well, 1.40V, 1.50V, 1.55V depending on where the connections are made
