I read reviews on some websites, saying the AMD Stock HSF for dual cores are good. I was planning to get the Thermaltake Big Typhoon. There was this one site, but i forgot where, that i think had the thermaltake typhoon in it's test. I didn't know how well ti did. Can anyone recommend a good hsf, im going to try to hit 2.4-2.5 at least on air.

Reading the reviews on Newegg, it sounds like quite a few folks have OC the 170 to 2.5 to 2.6GHz with the stock HSF.

BTW, I just ordered my rig from Newegg today including a Opty 170. My initial plan is to see how high I can OC with the stock HSF and then in the future possibly getting a Zalman HSF.

I have a Zalman on my P4 2.8GHz (now OC to 3.4GHz and Prime 95 stable) and it brought my temps down by 10deg C.

I have a opty 165 oced to 2.8ghz with the stock hsf (the new heat 4 pipe hsf) and temps never get over 50c with full load on both cores w/1.45volts.

Thats impressive!
I can only take my 165 to ~2450. And worse, my temps reach 55 already on 1.365V. Perhaps i did a bad mount? Is there any other explanation for my bad temps? Even thogh different batches and induvidual processors have variyng OC capabilities, they should respond the same in terms of heat if i understand it correctly? e.a. emit the same wattage ...

Yes my Case is fairly well ventilated (antec P150 MB 32-35C).
Maybe i should just get hold of a AS5 tube and redo it....

what do you think?

That's awesome. I hope to get to FX-60 speeds =P I'm getting the Thermaltake Big Typhoon, and am going to check my temps out. If it's good, I'll keep it.
