I'm having a few problems with my HP Laptop battery.

The laptop's a couple of years old and after living with having to constantly have the laptop plugged into the mains due to a seemingly dead battery for a while, I decided to replace the battery.

I bought an official new HP battery for the laptop, put it in, and lo and behold, I have exactly the same problem. The laptop will only run when plugged into mains power.

Windows XP shows that the battery is at 100%, fully charged.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to things I could do, or what the problem might be?

Have you inspected the contacts on the battery and the laptop to make sure they are not corroded, dirty, bent out of shape, broken or otherwise damaged?

Do you have a digital multimeter?

Please post your full hardware specs, the model number of the laptop and the model number for the battery.

I'll check all of the connections in the laptop case and yes, I do have a digital multimeter. I'll get back to you.
