I bought an AMD 3200 XP 400 fsb cpu as an upgrade for my 2400 which has ran awsome for 2 1/2 years now. My mobo is a Gigabyte (cant remember model #) with 400 FSB. When I installed the 3200 I left all the old setting the way they were <auto> and turned it on problem is no video came on so I changed the settings manually and same problem. So I changed the mobo to an MSI delta 2 (both mobos are on nforce 2 mcp chipset) and I had the same problem. Both mobo's work cuz I put the 2400 back in and it runs fine on both of them. I have 512 and 256 pc3200 mem and video card is a 5950 Gefore FX. HELP before i put a bullet in this processor................

Hi Kryptomage,

I doubt its a problem with that AMD 3200 XP ...

More likely:
1) Power connectors not firmly connected on the mobo?
2) Video card cables loose?
3) Power supply problem.

You may want to check out this article to find out how to troubleshoot this - i.e. blank screen after boot up.

More details plz, need to know the motherboartd model, look for the MS-XXXX number on it. What video card in particilar? Power supply? Is it up to it? Reseat all connectors and cards. Load defaults in the BIOS.

You probably have to update your bios to a newer version... not sure if that would cause a black screen, but it definately would help if the processor isnt supported on that model. Also, your motherboard might not even support that CPU, some MSI models only take up to like a 2600XP.

A thought. On the Gigabyte MB, is your RAM configured for dual channel? Where you've got missed matched sizes it might not work. For test purposes just use the larger in bank 0 and see what happens.

Went home last night updated bios on giabyte and msi mobo's and it still didnt work. I already tried the 512 and the 256 in bank0 and it still didnt work. Guess what I'm going to have to do is send the chip to AMD to have tested and possibly RMA'd. If anyone has anyother suggestions plz let me know. I'm also going to test it in a working amd 3200 system to see if it does the same thing, If it does then I know the processor is fudged up.
