Greetings: I have a MoBo for an "Athlon 64 or FX, socket 939, 1X or 2X cpu".

I does not state Opteron.

The MoBo is an ASUS A8N SLI Premium. Anyone have any experience with an Opteron on it? I would like to get an Opteron 170 if it would work.

Yes, an Opteron 170 will work on a Socket 939 motherboard even though manufacturer support is unofficial.

This question has been answered multiple times, use the appropriately named "Search" button.
