OK , In The NEW INTERACTIVE THG VGA Chart ,I Found Something Very Amazing , In F.E.A.R. 1024x768 4xAA 8xAF , Radeon X800XL Wins 7800GT By 2 Frame 8O So If Its True , There Is No Point In Buying GeForce Cards... Because An ATI X1800XT Can Win The Same Test VS 2x7800 512Mb (SLI) ...
Wow , I`m So Dissapointed For Buying My 2 Months old 7800GT Card :(

Wow, 2fps is really a huge difference.

Hey , I Didnt Say That There Is A Huge Difference , I`m Just Wondering Why A Radeon X800XL Can Run A Game Faster Than A 7800GT ??...
Ah...I Agree With You It Seems That F.E.A.R. Likes ATI Card More Than nVIDIA ...
But I Saw Something That Makes Me Feel A Lot Better , In Quake 4  ... You Can Go See It Your Self ...

Fear is but one title out of many. Just because one card is better than another on that game shouldnt be the deciding factor. I mean, not everyone plays the game fear. Also, it depends on what drivers people prefer to use.

Yeah , Yeah ... I Finished F.E.A.R. A Thousand Time , I Don`t Play It Anymore ...

I always think it's kinda wierd that the brand of card can end up making as large a difference as the speed of the card for certain games. Makes you wonder what the programmers were up to.

Hint: the X800 is not running SM3.0 shaders, the 7800 is.

In other words, it's not a fair test, because the nvidia card is doing more work than the ATI card.

SM3 has nothing to do with that.

What?

FEAR has shaders that it _ONLY_ runs on SM3.0 cards. The X800 is not an SM3.0 card. It does not run the SM3.0 shaders. It is not doing as much work as the 7800 card. It is therefore unsurprising that it runs faster than the 7800 card.

How exactly is the fact that the 7800 is doing more work 'nothing to do' with the lower performance?

Hey, mark SM3 is just as hard to run on both cards so SHUT THE HELL UP

um there is no sm3 on that radeon card..

You Are 100% Wrong , F.E.A.R. Uses SM 3.0 , & I Think This Is The Point That Makes X800 Wins The 7800 In F.E.A.R. ... I Dont Know , Maybe ... I`m Just A Little Confuse ...
I Just Thought That 7800 Can OutPerforme X800 In Every Test ...
There Must Be Something Wrong With That Game ...

Indeed: it's infinitely easier for the X800 to run SM3.0, because it's an SM2.0 card so the shaders aren't run.

For those posting here who don't know what they're talking about, even some Tom's reviews comment on this fact:

http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/02/14/nvidias_geforce_78...

"F.E.A.R. makes apparent the lack of SM 3.0 in cards that don't support it. In the tests with AA and AF turned on, the ATI cards make a quantum leap over the Nvidia based cards, but again, this is due to the detail that the Nvidia cards are providing over the SM 2.0b X800 and X850 cards. The visual differences are noticeable in many parts of the demo, such as the glass on the office door. The refraction light bending and clarity of the glass is much more realistic on the Nvidia hardware."

its running on old drivers. ive heard miracles of the new drivers that increase fear fps on gforce cards by like 10, 20 fps
April 16, 2006 2:52:14 AM

Because the Shader model 3.0 shaders are more complex, requiring more power?
April 16, 2006 2:55:31 AM

Do they have to put it in retardese for you?

The ATI card does not process SM3 at all, the Nvidia card does so therefor the Nvidia card has more information to process than the ATI card which would be why it runs slower

I don't even really follow video cards that much, first time I ever heard of it and I understood wtf they were talking about right away, damn.

OK, prozac, imagine it this way. In a car race, imagine one car only has to go 1/8 a mile compared to 1/4 a mile for the other. Now lets say that the first car is a little more than half as fast as the second. Which will win? It will be close, but perhaps the first car will win by a few seconds. This is the comparison. The 7800GT has to do more, it has to calculate the shaders, and that takes clock cycles, whereas the x800 does not have to, because it simply cannot. SM3.0 makes games look better, at the cost of fps.

WOW , Now I Understand  Thanks Boyz

Processing SM3.0 with AA and AF on cripples the card, yes, especially in a game like FEAR. I'm guessing you do not understand the magnitude of the SM3.0 calculations and textures. SM3.0 is part of the reason you almost need a 512MB card. THE TEXTURES ARE HUGE. It has to go back to the hard drive and the system RAM.
April 16, 2006 7:02:20 PM

So , Is There Any Way That I Can Disable That F***ing SM3.0 ??
I Want To Get A Better Frame Rate , I Don`t Really Care Much About Some Textures ... ( Heh , Whatever ... I Don`t Play F.E.A.R. Any More ...)
So Another Question Is Why An Radeon X1800XT ( That Support The Same Huge Textures ) Can Run F.E.A.R. in 70 Frame While 7800GT Runs At 38 Frame, I Know X1800XT Is Faster Than 7800GT , But I Dont Think It Has The Twice Power Of The 7800GT... ( Sorry For My Very Bad English   )
April 16, 2006 7:18:53 PM

Does the radeon have 512MB of VRAM? if it does, that explains it, along with the better architexture and shader modules, which FEAR makes heavy use of. I don't know whether you can turn it off. I imagine so, but I have yet to find a game i need to to get decent framerates.

Hey , My Only Problem Was F.E.A.R. I Play My Other Games ( Dawn Of War : Winter Assault , Doom 3 ROE , Quake 4 , Battle Field 2 ,... ) All In 1600x1200  With Max Details (4xAA  & MultiSampling AA  ) But in F.E.A.R. Even In 1024x768+4xAA In Some Scence The Frame Rate Dropped To 20 FPS ... Ah ... That Wat Terrible Frame Rate ... But That`s Not Important , I Don`t Play It AnyMore ...
