I just put together a new rig, with an Opty 170 on a A8R32-MVP board. I was scared $hitless getting the board, because I heard of all the buggy issues, but went ahead and took a chance, and I have not regretted my decision. But there are a few things I'm kinda clueless about, not really about the board, but about the HyperTransport.

On the A8R32-MVP board, it lets you really push the HTT. I have my 170 clocked to 2.6(easily, and will try to go farther), on a 1:1 divide with the memory(with the cpu multi @ x10). And my HTT multi WAS at five. So my HTT was running at 1.3Ghz. I ran it Prime95 for 8 1/2 hours, no errors. But I have heard that running the HTT past 1Ghz causes system instability, and really gives no performance increase.

Is this true? Anyone care to enlighten me on this subject? Thanks.

You know the drill, push it even further and harder !

Asus most likely did something right with that board.

Yea, it's a good board, 'cept some of the voltage steppings are limited(but i'm not trying to volt mod the hell outta it, so whooptydo), and I'm having trouble with my on board audio and my x-fi soundcard. But I just got the rig put together like three days ago, so I have a lot of tweaking/exploring to do.

Yea, I would like to keep up the HTT, but I'm very suspicious of it's benefits, and hopefully after I get off of work I can 3DMark and stress test it(FEAR, HL2, COD2, Oblivion, BF2) and try to see some difference. It would be real cool if someone else knew this that way I won't have to waste a few hours doing it, because between my work and fiance, my time with the computer is precious, lol.
