42 bit input/output

Hi I am considering buying a microtek 4600 that has 42 bit input and outputs 42 bit (most only output 24 bit)
I will be using it with photoshop 6.
does 42 bit output really make a difference? is it an important feature to look for?
anyone have any opinions on this produced?
it is the same scanner as the 4700 best buy from PC magazine but without the film/slide adaptor (I will be getting a film scanner so this option will not be needed
