I recently gave my A64 2800+/512 DDR/80gb to my little sister... So I need to build a new PC soon. I have about $1000 saved up right now and am now wondering what should the new components for my NEW PC be...

I'm going to do light gaming, but a lot of video editing on this machine. AMD or Intel it doesn't really matter...

Here's what I want... Dual Core CPU, PCIe, and at least 1 gb RAM... Is this possible for $1000? Thanks to all who reply! 8)

yes it's possible.

I juste built a pc last week and the total cost was 1031$Ca

mobo: asus p5nd2-sli ( 135$Ca)
cpu: p4 2.8ghz ht ,not dual core but you can use the same mobo with a dual (0$ took from old Alienware laptop that burnt out, it should cost around 180$)
graphic: 1x nvidia 6600 ( far from the best but thats all I could spare) ( 115$ Ca)
ram: 2x 512mb ddr2 533mhz Platinum (105$)

It cost me 1031$ because I had to buy a screen ( 350$) and I added the Watercooling ( 145$) ( when your motherboard fries inside a 4k$ laptop you get paranoi) and also DVD+-rw, hard drive...etc

The only thing I would change in my comfig would be the graphic card. I want to get at least a 7800 soon and another one later for SLI

So you should be able to get a pretty descent computer for 1k, especialy if you build it yourself.

Run it on the pad that comes in the box with the motherboard hotwired from a 12V car battery using pirated Windows!

I picked the motherboard cause it has onboard firewire. I went for a larger hard drive for your video needs as well. You may find some parts cheaper elsewhere. I already spent too much time. lol The opteron system above sounds very nice too - maybe take a littel frome each of the posts . LOL just remembered you need a optical drive too...
