So what happens when you have a 19inch LCD and play a game at non-native, say 10x7......how bad is the image quality?, and what actually happens image wise?

Depending on your LCD it can look horrible. I have 2 Hyundai L90D+ and non-native resolutions for gaming are horrible. Muddy, streaky, blurry, and just a mess.

How I get around this is in the NV control panel I either have the GPU fill to screen or pixle-to-pixel, which letterboxes the game.

I have played FEAR at 1024x768 on 19" LCD (E196fp, $265, native 1280x1024) by Dell, and MOH on a Dell 21" (native 1600x1200) 2001fp at 1280x1024", and I think that, at least with those monitors, a "non-native" res looks just as good as native....at least with the two Dell monitors I've used

(I think the whole "non-native" issue is a bit overhyped for 19" and 20" LCDs, and many people hype it as though the results will resemble playing the original Quake at 400x300 on a 30" LCD capable of 2560x1600, with resultant pixel blocks the of dice, etc...)

I guess my problem is that I already have a decent 19in CRT, so to get the "one up" on that, I'd really need a 21in WS LCD, but, I don't want to go backwards WRT IQ, especially considering the cost,......anyway, I upgraded my PC box 6 months ago, so I'm now just waiting for a reason to buy a complete new system, ie, Vista, DX10 games that are worth a damn....so hopefully the moniters will have improved a tiny bit more by then.

If it works fine, I'd keep the 19" CRT then you can adjust res to whatever the game demands. I agree with you, 19" CRT to 19" LCD is not at all a good upgrade for gaming.
