Hey guys this is my first time posting here so take it easy on the noob.
I was thinking about upgrading my CPU on my HP Pavilion 533w. Whats the fastest CPU that I can put in there? It currently has a celeron 2 Ghz.

So I guess upgrading from a celeron to a P4 is out of the question. :(

some 845 chipsets can support the 533 bus cpu's, while the earlier versions could not. a 2.0 GHz P4 on the 400 mhz fsb would not be a bad upgrade. 2.4 GHz pentium 4s can also can found to use the 400 mhz fsb, but unfortunately they are pretty expensive on Ebay.

I think Celeron's are socket 478 while P4s are socket 775
Old Pentium4s are socket 478 also.

Very, very old P4's are socket 423. Most s423 P4's use RDRAM and they were the fastest thing around in their day.

I am currently building a 533w. The best you can do safely is a 2.5 ghz P4 w/478 soc. I got mine from ebay for like $20. one more thing you can upgrade the RAM to 1 gig or 2X512 DDR PC2100 cards. After that maybe a HDD upgrade.
