I hope someone can help me. At the suggestion of a tech from ATI, the maker of my video card and my husband's video card, I installed the Digital Video Update for DirectX 8.0a. At about the same time, my husband also installed it on his machine. The next time we tried to play Everquest, a message came up that indicated that the program thinks we're running a version of DirectX below 6.0, and says we must upgrade. The DVU is uninstallable, especially because neither of us are experienced at editing the registry.

For other reasons as well as this problem, I wiped my hard drive and re-installed everything. My husband refuses to do that on his machine, so he can't play EQ. Help! He travels for business, and it's a great way for us to spend time together. Is there any way to reverse this?
