I just got an h4155 iPaq. In looking at HP's .pdf file on using the LAN, it talks
about tapping the "Network Indicator icon" on the top of the Start Bar. This
brings down a dialog box that lets you choose which network to connect to. I
don't have this on mine. Instead, I go to Start/Setting/Connections to see the
available networks. The wireless works fine, but I'd like to be able to see the
available networks on the main screen. Am I missing something here?

It does that only if it's a new network. Already-
setup networks won't appear from the double-arrow deal.
You could use the "Settings" link from there, though,
once the radio is on and warmed-up:

settings, advanced, network card, tah-dah (select network panel)
