Well, what are you planning on doing with your pc? If it is gaming, then you need at least 1gb ram and a newer graphics card. I have 1gb ram and just replaced my ancient MX 420 and everything is awsome on my pc (P4 northwood @2.4ghz) So, if you want to be able to play games, then I would upgrade my ram first which speeds up everything and then the graphics card.

First Suggestion Would Be 1 Gb Ram , Next New Graphic Card : Like GeForce 6800GS , Or ATI X800XT Or ATI X850XT PE or If You Have Enough Money GeForce 7800GS Would Be The Best ...

SAPPHIRE 100131 Radeon X800GTO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP for around $170.

And upgrade your ram to 2x1Gb. A value select ram should do great with your system and with the X800GTO you should be able to play the latest games with decent quality and good performance. The 7800GS is a good card but I would rather upgrade to a pci-e mobo set up and get the 7900GT instead.

ya ..that sound card is very good ....well i forgot to ask......how much buck do you have......

if you have enough money you can think of buying a new computer rather that upgrating an old one...
you can keep the sound card ...optical drives..floppy disk..even hard disk if enough

do i have to use sdram ?
if i upgrade memory will pro ev 5 run a bit smoother ?

With your system system specs a set of 2x1Gb or 2x512Mb value ram with should be good. You don't need a high end ram like the XMS2 Pro series, for it is only good with high end cpu and some overclocking. It should run your system smoother with games as well. Hell, with 2x1Gb and X800, you can even play BF2.

that system you should better leave it as is.

probably none of the new guys took a good look at your system, but to clear it also up for them:

gaz runs:

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/ms6533gl.htm

-133mhz fsb with his SIS chipset...
-133mhz fsb northwood P4A (@ celeron speeds...)
-2x256mb single channel RAM and both slots filled up (possibly even pc2100!).
-geforce4 440mx

gaz, keep this system like that, because any upgrade you can possibly make to it is by far obsolete for this 4year old system (motherboard dates 2002!!!)

save up and get something with some performance potential.
i.e. Athlon64 /IntelPentiumD920/805

Playing your musics does not use that much of memory space. Having huge amount of ram space will give more smoother and faster performance on huge applications like gaming and other application.

So when are you going to upgrade you graphics card anyways? :D

The X800GTO sounds like your best bet if you need to pinch your pennies.

1gb value ddr400 >= £100
ATI X800GTO (OEM) >= £170

Total = £270 :D
