Is there a standard way to synchronize the system clock to one of the
network time servers by using the sync cable or a GPS datastream?

I'm looking for a program similar to tardis, but for a pocketpc...

Thanks in advance...

There are lots of time servers on the web, and a few freeware setting
programs for your PC. AS will then sync to the computer when connected. You
could try a search engine to look for these, or one of the freeware sites.

http://www.worldtimeserver.com/ look at Atomic Clock Sync utility, they say:

Our freeware Atomic Clock Sync utility can help you keep your local computer
up-to-date with the exact current time.

This program will reference an atomic clock server to get the current time
with the greatest accuracy available and update your PC's information. It
can even be set to automatically check the time once a day to keep your PC's
time accurate forever. Best of all, you can download and use this utility at
no cost to you!

No spyware! No ad banners! No cost! No questions asked! So why do we do give
Atomic Clock Sync away as freeware? Simply to encourage you to use and
return to World Time Server.com for the current time in places other than
where you live!

I've added a line on the other computers so they sync to that PC when
rebooted, there may be more elegant ways to this if needed.

Wouldn't a person be better off keeping their desktop PC clock synced to an
NTP server? I thought Activesync reset the PPC clock to desktop time
everytime it syncs?

fundamentalism, fundamentally wrong.

I have included information concerning desktop time synchronization, including links to *FREE*
clients, on this page...

http://members.cox.net/ajarvi/WM20 [...] eSync.html

This is built into XP Pro and XP Home by the way...

And yes, ActiveSync can be configured (its the default) to synch the PocketPC clock each time you
synchronize the device via USB/Serial/IR or a wired/wireless network link...

The original poster does allude to using a GPS datastream, perhaps while away from the desktop at a
remote location. I can't speak to a GPS link, but I manually time sync my iPAQs using vxUtil when
connected to a wireless WiFi hotspot or via a dial modem link to my ISP...

That's the "standard" way all right -- with XP and ActiveSync it's fully
automatic not even any 3rd party software. I guess there are a few
users who don't sync to a pc at all--in that case a standalone ppc
application would be useful assuming they have someway to connect to the
Internet.

GPSDash can do this, as well as all the other stuff it does...

Thanks to all for the information.

I found that using Activesync does indeed synchronize the pocketpc system
clock to the system clock on the master pc.

I also tried GPSDash and was able to synchronize the pocketpc system clock
to the GPS system time.
