I'm looking for the highest cooling capacity. Noise comes second, but I'd also like to know what you guys think of the noise on each of these I'm about to list. Keep in mind that I'll be getting a more powerful aftermarket fan for each of these. Alright, here goes: Scythe Mine, Cooler Master Hyper 6, Titan Vanessa L Type, Tuniq Tower, Titan Siberia, or the Thermaltake Sonic Tower. If you guys have any good benchmarks/comparisons of these, I'd like to see them. Tell me what you guys think. Here's a link for each of them.

Coolermaster for shure.

I got the Thermaltake Big Typhoon and got the fan replaced with 120mm Silverstone fan. This thing cools down my 840 very well and this is one hot running cpu. But I heard the Ninja and Zalman is good as well.

Also check out Zalman's line of copper HSF's. They have a new one, the 9500 something, that looks like a wind turbine, but cools like H20. Zalman has consistently gotten extremely good results in temp reductions Vs. the stock coolers for most CPU's. Thermaltake also makes really nice coolers, they are always a good bet.

i second the zalman 9500. you cant replace the fan, but it lets my 3800+ run about 10-12 deg C cooler at full load in a warm room.

I got Tuniq120 cooler ...and quieter than any other mentioned and trully reliable... coolermaster is good only for average systems... hi-end... go for better solutions...
my Opty 165 is OC and temp is just like normal CPU in AMD heatsink...

There is an article around here somewhere that bench's the different aftermarket heatsinks. Do a google on it.

I have the zalmon 9500. I like it. One of the advantages is that the fan actually sits right in front of the rear exhaust fan. This way, instead of blowing hot air in the case (like other heatsinks), the 9500 actually blows the air outside (with help from the exhaust fan).

If I've had my computer on for awhile, and doing some heavy gamming (fear, ect), the air comming out of that 120 fan is warmer than the fan right on top of it. That's much better than just kicking the air around inside the case...

I'm looking for comments on the ones I listed. I'm not interested in the Tt CNPS9500, Ninja Plus, or Big Typhoon. They've all been proven in alot of benchmarks I've seen to be inferior to everyone I listed (with the exception of the Siberia or Coolermaster; I've yet to see benchies for either of them). Please just keep the comments relevant to the ones I've listed.

your links don't work, and i'm too lazy to google them. i'd also like to be a punk and add that even though i dont own one yet, the noctua NH-U12 roxors.

edit: 2 hours later. alright... i just took some time to google all the stuff and these are my conclusions after reading a bunch of reviews, first thing's first... most these things are heat pipe coolers (cept the siberia) designed for fan use (cept the sonic tower), lots more surface area, rather than fanless which usually have less fins for more airflow, most of these are a lot more affordable than the other "high end" HSF's, and another thing as is the trend... these suckers are HUGE!! with that out of the way:

how much bigger can the fans get? as big as i want.
Scythe Mine: easiest to install, has good performance (matches or does better than the Ninja). Very nice lap job, toolless install, can attach a 140mm fan to it for even more performance... yahhhh... Plus I trust Scythe more than the other companies for some odd reason.

Cooler Master Hyper 6+: A nice package. It was supposedly complicated to install, flipping over the mobo to be on top of the hsf and what not. Performance is good. All in all a very average HSF. Nothing really stands out about it except for the saw tooth edges on the fins! yah. If the protective shroud is taken off it can be a very efficient murder weapon too.

ain't she a beauty?
Titan Vanessa: A very attractive HSF package; shiny blue fan casing, painted silvery fan, plated copper hs. Very good for all you case modders out there with blue theme. Temps seemed ok, it was designed to be quiet, so not the best (with a different fan this may be a different story, but but but but... it's so pretty. oh yea... and it includes a screwdriver, cool huh? During research i found 2 different models S-type (multiple heatpipes sprouting from a square base) and L-type (one large central copper heatpipe stronger fan)

Funky Fan
Titan Siberia: Does not have heatpipes. Nano blue thermal grease included. I have no idea how it fares against AS 5, but it sounds cool. "I use nanotechnology to cool my cpu, ooooh yeeeahh." comes with a fan speed controller like the vanessa. Aluminum heatsink with a mirror finish (copper contact plate of course) Temps are ok, they are "competitive", nothing astounding, except the price. This thing is damned cheap. about $30 when it comes out. Cools mobo too (much like the flower HSFs, some tower, and some table top coolers do claim to do) by blowing air down to the mobo also. wow. wierd because some review site's had different heatsinks..

Daaaayem! Tthas a HUGE @#$@!
Tuniq Tower: Similar design to the Scythe with a fan in the middle of the HS. Installation seems alright, but "must remove plastic frame around CPU socket" sounds a little daunting. Comes with now mandatory fan speed regulator. Has some very cool temps. Might a tad bit on the noisy side. Probably the biggest of the HSFs.

Tall and Bony
Thermaltake Sonic Tower: Iffy temps because it's very dependant on the performance of the fan, but paired with a good fan it faired very nicely (built for passive cooling). Installation didn't look very pleasant though. Probably the best performance of the bunch (from some of the reviews at least)

Lol tgw has a lite review of 10 massive coolers that include most of the mentioned hsfs. 10 massive coolers

Out of all the one's you listed I'd go with the Scythe Mine. The design is in my opinion superb, and unlike the Tuniq Tower the fan can be replaced with a bigger one. Being a very aesthetic person some times too, I'd say the slimming look of 2 Cooling fin towers with a fan nestled in the middle would give it looks second only to the Titan Vanessa (don't you know slim is in! Razr, Slivr, cracked out bony models/actresses/singers that look like starving kids from a third world country. Since I just had to mention that, all the other coolers are damned fat and ugly, cept for the sonic tower that for an odd reason looks disgustingly skinny.

Haha. had to share this. check out what they did to an Asus starice Heatsink with 2 Titan Siberia Fans.

umm, since i own a big typhoon, i'm pretty offended that you just throw it out of your choices just because it performed inferior in some random test. if you are going ot disgard a hsf out of your choices, at least look at a legitmate review and ask yourself questions before blindly following the review

most testing has shown that the big tyhpoon is one of the highest performing hsfs out there. much of what you listed is crap or unsucessful respins of other hsfs

out of your choices, throw out all the titan heastinks, and if you can deal with noise, keep the hyper 6 as it only performs well with a strong fan

i've never heard of a scythe mine, but since its relative to teh original ninja scythe, i guess it can't be bad.

the tuniq tower is probably the best performing out of your list and very silent as well. and there are numerous other good choices to choose from including:

si-120, big typhoon, zalman 9500(does not perform as well as the others slightly, but i highly respect it for its engineering - its a 92mm heatsink performing better than most 120mm heatsink).

lol. Calm down. Don't shit your pants and get offended just because I have a certain opinion about a computer part. From what I've surmised, the Tt Big Typhoon is good, particularly good in the noise department. It just doesn't happen to be my cup of tea with it's cooling aspect. I'm just looking to squeeze as much cooling potential out of the HSF I get as possible. I was considering the Tt for quite some time.

Also, I was simply inquiring about the ones I listed. I read some interesting stuff about them, and wanted to know more. I never said they were the top performers. I've eliminated the Titans after further inspection. I'm now considering the Thermalright XP-120, as the XP-90C and Si-120 only fit socket 478 up to 3.2ghz, whereas mine is a 2.6. Otherwise, I'd likely get the 90C. I'm also considering the Tuniq tower, Scythe Ninja/Mine/Shogun (Though, I'm still not sure what to think about the Shogun due to the inconsistancy of information I've seen on it).
