suddenly the computer stalls. I had to click restart button in the cpu which
is not the correct shutdown. what could be the reason for this sudden
stalling (it occurs occasionally). I check for virus twice a week with avg
free. I also defragment once a month. the files in c:\windows|temp are
deleted periodically. the mouse is cleaned periodically.

please cc your reply to my email address also. thanks.

First question is: What are you doing when the system freezes? If there
seems to be any pattern, that's the place to start. What do you mean by
"occurs occasionally"? Twice a day? Twice a week? Twice a month?

Freezing can be caused by any number of things. Many people would
consider "occasional" freezing a blessing, <s>. Keep a log--when it
freezes, immediately write down what you were doing and what else was
just sitting there open. Also write down the time of day and how it has
been since the system was restarted or turned on.
