Hi Tech Gurus, need an advise. I am using a Intel Xeon CPU and the fan power connector can be connected directly to motherboard or it also can be connect to the PC power supply (thru a adapter). I am hearing different opinion out there which option is a better choice. Or there is no difference at all. Can someone here share their opinion on the above.
I am using a dual Xeon 3.2 GHz and a Tyan mobo with a Antec Neo 550W power supply. Thanks in advance. Cheers....

Either will provide the fan with power. Plug it into the mobo if there's a spot for it because 1) the mobo can monitor the fan speed and when configured right will tell you when it stops spinning, and 2) some mobos (not sure about that Tyan, and it can usually be turned off) won't start without the fan plugged into the mobo.

Mike.
