Just recently the "Standby" will not operate on my Wndos 98SE. The monitor
will go on standby, and goes dark, but the computer will not. I then have
to reboot the computer to start it.
Where is the folder and what file controls "standby"? or what and where is
the program line.
I can replace it.
And before those of you who do not like "standby" try to tell me it is not
worth the trouble, I LIKE IT, so save your time.

It's not a matter of not liking Standby, it's a matter of, "If it works,
fine. If it doesn't, it's Pure Hell to fix."

There are too many players in the Standby scheme, and too many places
where it can get screwed up. Your post suggests that you think it's a
simple little program that's amenable to reinstalling or repairing. It
isn't anything of the sort. It's a major-league coordinated dance in
which all the dancers have to play their part perfectly, and which can
quickly go from being an elegant ballet to being more reminiscent of a
mosh pit, just because one shoe on one dancer is tied wrong. Long hours
of trouble-shooting can go into isolating the probable cause, and then
it's usually a case of having to give up something else you don't want
to give up. And even if you figure it all out--it may still not work,
just out of general orneriness. Heck, it could be as simple as your
hardware aging.

Amen!
(Oh wait! That's what they say at the end of a sermon, isn't it? <gd&rvvf>)
