How many PCI-E boards can I place in one motherboard? Could I control 6 monitors with 3 separate PCI-E cards? Does such a motherboard exist?

Thanks.

Yep along with wireless keyboard and mouse, with 8 monitors and have them station anywhere in the house like the kitchen or the bathroom, so in that way when you go to get something to drink or take a piss you wouldn't miss a bit in playing online.

There are more options. The motherboard I have, the MSI K8N Diamond Plus, has a PCIe 4X/2X slot that the manual says can house a 2X/4X video card when those are invented. The other option is this:

http://www.matrox.com/mga/workstation/3dws/products/mill_gseries/g550_pcie.cfm

I guess it works in any PCIe slot, including 1X. I also guess you could put one of these in every PCIe slot and support lots of moniters. It might work, it might not. Would not be good for gaming I would think.

Then again there is always Quad-SLI. That supports up to 8.

If you need just the large amount of monitors,
the matrox 3headtogo, works wonders.

http://www.matrox.com/mga/corp/th2go/home.cfm

all you would need is 2 pci-e slots.

If you were going for a HUGE type of setup, with individual control of the monitors, and high performance, then you would need a board with high performance pci-e slots...

Matrox also makexs pci-e 1x cards, with 2 heads. $139 list on teir site. Now all you would need is the 2x pci-e 16 cards, and 1 pci-e 1x card.

this is the only motherboard ive seen with 3 pci-e x16 slots

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813153030

That board has a maximum of two PCIe 16X cards at the same time. The reason there is 3 slots is so that they don't need a bridge card for single/sli operation. The max is two PEG slots at a time, only the Tyan and Gigayte boards support 4 PCIe 16X cards at once.

As many as there are slots.
You can put 2 PCIe-16x + 2 PCIe-1X in most SLi and Xfire boards.

If all you want is 6 monitors you could do 2 PCIe 16X and 1 PCie1X or even 1 quad monitor card + 1 dual monitor, the question is what are you using it for?

You can put 6 gcards in your motherboard - but you'll need slots and the right chipset to distribute the load, plus a dual quad core cpu.... Just joking.

As far as i know, there is no such option on normal motherboards. The 975 mobo from Intel, does have 3 slots, but alas only two will work in dual mode with Crossfire. It was suppose to do SLi aswell, but some sour grapes exists because NV don't feel comfortable with the idea of a mobo who supports it's own product, and the oppositions in dual mode. Ofcourse, it's more political than this.

Was your question a general question, or do you wish to actually try and rig 6 monitors?
