im planning on buying an opteron 170 very soon...planning on OCing it alot. I thinkin about going with the DFI SLI-DR board but it doesnt fit the color scheme of my new rig. Anyone know of a plain looking board (no uv reactive crap) that can OC alot?

DFI boards are the best 939 OC'ing boards out there.... your overclocking your rig to work faster and harder who cares if its pretty.

I care because im painting the inside of my case black, buying all black cords, a black power supply with black sleeving, the only color i want to show is the blue led fans and my uv blue reactive water tubing. A board that has florescent colors on it is goin to look out of place.

Well...there are lots of 'good' overclocking boards out there...DFI is the best.

Epox, MSI, Asus, Abit all make boards that are capable of hitting very high oc's...I only know the nforce 4 series well, so that's what i'm talking about. Epox has almost as many settings on their high end boards as the DFI...Which of course gives you more options for overclocking (but also makes it harder to oc, since you have less people oc'ing with them::ie less of a crowd to ask questions to...). Epox, MSI, Asus, ABIT have all recorded 300+ fsb speeds on some of their high end boards...

The Asus a8n-sli deluxe sucks for oc'ing stay away.
The asus a8n-sli premium is great for oc'ing until you hit 1.5vcore, where it doesn't allow a higher voltage. Rock solid however.

I don't have personal working knowledge of any other boards (in that name brand list...). But i've read up on several, as can you.

Non-DFI Boards that are interesting to me are:
Abit ABIT AN8 32X as well as AN8 SLI
Epox EP-9NPAJ NF4 (non-sli) and EPoX EP-9NPA+ SLi
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
MSI K8N Diamond

I can vouch for the Asus A8N32-Sli. It has great overclocking options, and comes in black with a nice copper heatpipe, so should look good in your case.

I have no experience with any of the other boards mentioned.

I'm planning on the opty 170 with the av8r32-mvp for my new build. It's black and I hear it overclocks well. DFI does seem to have the most oc capability of anyboard though.

Same here.

Got an Opty 170 on a A8R32-MVP.

2,6Ghz @ 1.4vCore (bios : 0404)

Dunno how well it OC's exactly tho, I'm on mediocre UCCD mem Corsair TwinX 2048-4000PT and a Zalman 9500. Watercooling setup will be in soon, so guess i can try and see what this asus mobo can give :)

Sounds great!
I'm probably buying OCZ gold ddr500, and an arctic cooling freezer pro.
I'll be happy if I hit 2.6 or so. The new rig must last a good while, so I'm not going too close to the edge with it.
Happy Clocking!

MSI K8N Diamond Plus. It overclocks extremely well, and the board itself is black. Get it over the Asus A8n32 if you want to be able to use your PCI slots.

Well!
I must admit this is the first time that I have come across someone wanting to overclock a PC but is more conscious of colour coordination than efficiency! :?
Strange priorities...

Anyhow the best motherboard for overclocking in my opinion is the:
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR VENUS
which has solid capacitors with the fastest timings I have found.

Coincidentally the motherboard itself is black (but not the connectors).

Have fun! :p

I am going with the Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe motherboard...

and will be essentially upgrading from the A8R-MVP board.

My Opteron 175 would only oc to 2.68GHz, and was only stable at 2.5GHz...
So I run it 24/7 at 2.44GHz and does fine.
I am hoping for some more top end with this newer revision of a well made board.
