Hi,

My PPC ( h4350 ) has a integrated wireless LAN ! When I got the PPC new a
few month ago, I had no trouble configuring and setting up the wireless
connection through my Linksys router ( WRT54G, with MIXED mode; wireless b &
g ). I do need to use static IP addresses as well as MAC filter and WEP
encryption on the router. But as I said, everything ( sync, Internet, drive
mapping, network connection, etc. ) worked fine, no problems at all.

Then I went to the HP web site and updated my h4350 with the following
SoftPacks :

SP28375 ( System ROM UPD )
SP28733 ( WLAN UPD )

Since the ROM update, I am not able to connect to my wireless network
anymore. I entered all the IP and DNS info correctly on the PPC, but the
Asset Viewer shows as an IP address alwasy 0.0.0.0 ! So it seems, the
wireless adapter doesn't get the IP address I entered. I also tried to
enable DHCP on the router as well as on the h4350, but to no avail.

Does anyone know what could be wrong ? Any ideas ? So far I tried almost all
settings and combinations on the h4350 to get a IP address, but it won't
work.

Thanks for helping.

Tom

Add-on !!!

If I go to :

Settings \ Connections \ Connection Icon \ Advanced \ Network Card I
can see the SSID of my wireless network and it shows "Available", but I
can't connect to it.

I haven't changed anything on my Linksys Router since I had last network
access ( before the HP Softpack Update), MAC address is entered correctly
and all my other wireless Notebooks work fine.

Very strange. Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Tom

Did you install the ROM 1.10 upgrade before applying the Wireless Lan
upgrade?

Hi,

thanks for the reply.

Yes, I did install the ROM upgrade first, than I tried it and it didn't
work, so I went back to the HP web site, saw and downloaded the WLAN upgrade
and installed it. Still no success.

I spent a few hours on it today, still not working. The h4350 is seeing my
SSID and shows it as available, but I can't connect.

Also, I can't manage to get the IP address show up in the Asset Viewer like
it did before. It always shows the IP as 0.0.0.0 !! Tried several soft
resets, but no success.

Maybe there is a corrupt entry in the registry, which prevents the IP
address from being recognized ( but who knows where it is buried ! :) )

Any other ideas ?

Thanks,

Tom

Hmm,

I've followed that firmware + patch path on both a 4350 and a 4150. On
both occasions I had to remove and re-key in all WLAN settings in order
to get back on the network, but once done it worked fine.

Good luck.

Hi,

thanks for your answer.

Well, I haven't removed my WLAN's connections as of now. I just re-keyed
them. I will delete them now and do a soft reset and key the info back in.

I'll let you know if if helped.

Thanks,

Tom

Well, it didn't work.

If I have my wireless connection active, I can't remove ( or it won't let
me ) the wireless access to my router. And if I turn off the connection, my
wireless SSID doesn't show up at all.

I am not really sure at this point what the problem could be, but since I
can see my routers wireless SSID with the status available, but can't
connect to it, my guesses are :

1. The WLAN card in the h4350 does not accept or saves the IP address ( no
matter if static or DHCP )
2. The WLAN card does not recognize, save or accept my "open WEP encryption

Before the firmware and patch, I never ever had any troubles to configure or
connect to my wireless network.

Is there maybe a registry setting, which I could either modify or delete, to
have, after a soft reset a clean wireless network to set up ? What key
would it be ?

Thanks,

Tom

Did you ever solve this problem?

I have the same issue with my Ipaw 4350/4355. I recently upgraded to
a G router from a B version, and I can't get it to connect to my
network either. The only way to make it work is by setting the router
to "B only". Mixed doesn't work.

I also have the firmware upgrade and the WLAN patch, and I even
uninstalled the WLAN patch to see if it helped. It didn't.

I am using 128 bit encryption (WEP)...

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi,

nope, haven't solved the problem so far !!

Yes, I also have a G router and had ( still have ) it set to mixed mode and
it was always working great. Since the upgrade, it doesn't connect anymore.

I will try tomorrow morning to set it temporarily to B mode to see if I have
the same luck as you and get connected again. If I do get connected after
setting my router from Mixed to B mode, it is obvious, that the
firmware/patch does something "goofy" and doesn't let the h4350 connect to
mixed mode !

I'll let you know.

Tom

Hi,

well, I couldn't wait and have set my G router from mixed to B-Only mode,
but I am not as lucky as you are. I still can't connect. Rebooted the
router, soft reset the h4350, but still no luck. I guess, I need to call HP
to find out what the problem is !

I probably won't have time till Monday to do that, but if I have news, I'll
let you know.

Cheers,

Tom

Mine has never worked since the upgrade either and it stinks because I
