A friend has just upgraded his OS from win98 to win98se and has encountered
a couple of problems.

1. When he does a shutdown the pc re-boots.
2. The Windows tour page continually appears even after unchecking the 'dont
show this again box'
3. He has the 'welcome to windows' message to enter a username and password
which isnt needed - he wants to remove it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Joe

goto Start>run and type msconfig ...go to advanced tab and check 'disable
fast shutdown'

you mean 'check' the 'don't show this again box' ? try reboot then empty the
windows\temp folder

goto control panel >networking and change default logon to 'windows logon'
instead of 'client for microsoft networking'

Hi Joe

I am not aware of 1 and 2.

for 3, go to Start-Settings-ControlPanel-Passwords

click "change windows password"

enter your existing password.

just press enter in new password, and again enter at confirm
new password.

If you do not set the password for windows, it will not not
show the logon window, and would diretcly go to desktop.
