I'm trying to assist a friend with an error he's having so bear with me, I don't know most of the details on his machine but I would appreciate some general help if possible.

Basically what's happened is his ctrl+alt+del function no longer brings up the Task Manager in Win XP. He's using the Pro version so I sent him an article from the MS Knowledge Base on how to turn that function ON if an administrator has turned it off, but I'm not sure that's the problem. Have any of you ever run into this or heard of it before?

I'm sorry I can't offer more detailed info, but if you can offer any general advice it would greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did he disable "fast user switching" in the control-panel --> user accounts? Then he should get the "windows security" screen and has several options like "lock", "logoff", "shutdown", "change password", and "task manager".

If so then re-enabling "fast user switching" should get it back.

You can also access task mgr by right-clicking on the task bar, and select "task manager" which is almost as quick.
