Subject: RE:'Case=776-533' LiveUpdate
Hi Brian,
Welcome back to Symantec Online Technical Support.
Thank you for the information sent with regard to the issue.
Brian, The DICINS~1 window is a part of a LiveUpdate program patch
installation process. It appears when LiveUpdate runs some program
installation processes in the background. It is normal for this window to
appear when you install certain program updates through LiveUpdate. However,
if this window appears every time you launch LiveUpdate or when Automatic
LiveUpdate runs in the background, there may be a problem with the patch
installation.
In order to resolve this issue I suggest that you follow the steps provided
below:
1. Check for available drive space
2. Install the latest version of LiveUpdate
To download the latest version of the LiveUpdate please refer the document
provided below:
Note: In some cases the patch may have failed to install properly on the
first attempt and subsequent attempts are unable to complete the
installation because of problems that remain from the first attempt. If you
uninstall the program which LiveUpdate is attempting to patch (such as
Norton AntiVirus 2005) and reinstall it, the program will be reset without
any updates on it. You can then run LiveUpdate to download the update again.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance to you in using
the Symantec product.

That's a fearful prospect, to un/re-install a monster such as Norton. I
know I dread the day I must even just uninstall McAfee! (But it's still
free for me, shhh.)

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,

Thanks, Brian. I saw the message briefly a few minutes after ZA prompted me
about allowing liveupdate to access the internet. It was the first time
I've seen it, and was wondering about it. And, I'm sure many people will be
reliieved knowing it was supposed to run as part of liveupdate instead of
something that got on their computer that they didn't want/need/like.

After going through the rounds with the tech and obvious communication
barriers, damn the companies that outsource to save money, my final note to
them was similar to Richard H. If I have to uninstall it then it will not
be reinstalled and an alternative vendors product will be used.
My own thoughts not to the tech.
I know the thoughts on Norton by many users isn't positive and have seen
the many issues that users have, yet I'll remain using it as my mileage has
been very good on the machines I have. It hasn't hampered my boot, caused
sluggishness or slowed the machines in any way. When the day does come that
it starts showing any problems will be the day of reckoning.

I don't see those two states as being mutually exclusive, <eg>.
