Hi!

Is there an ATC add on that makes the ATC in MSFS more realistic?

Also, would it work with any of the traffic add ons, and which traffic add
on is the best?

Often, I get told to go around while on final because some AI plane is on
the runway.

This happens most of the time at busy airports.
I am a private pilot in real life, and never get instructed by the tower to
go around.......

Also, the controllers telling high flying jets that they are 100 feet above
assigned at FL397 is also a bit outrageous. This does not happen in real
life either.

Finally, I never hear in real life advisories for traffic behind me, but
often in MSFS.

So, any input of which software to get is appreciated!

Thanks

Frode

www.vatsim.net or www.ivao.org are about as real as you can get...both real
time online with live ATC

Let me second that. I've been flying on VATSIM almost daily for several
months, and find it very difficult now to go back to the computer ATC.
Several things stand out for me:

1. More realistic interaction with ATC. I.e., you can't choose 1, 2, 3,
or 4. You have to listen, take notes, and talk back.

2. More variables.

3. Realistic instructions from ATC, using real-world procedures.

4. Accelerated learning curve. Having real people at the other end
(whether they're controllers or your fellow pilots) pushes you to learn
new procedures, skills, places to go.

5. Human beings.

I am also a happy VATSIM user. However, if you for any reason don't want to
fly on-line, there is a program called voxatc that gives you some level of
voice interaction with non-human atc. I didn't try it yet myself but take a
look at www.voxatc.com

I do mostly VFR flying in the Alaska and Misty Fjords area now in
light aircraft.. Is Vatsim ever used for that type of flying or is it
mostly IFR and major airports flying utilizing commercial Jets?

VATSIM often has ATC coverage in the Anchorage area, but I've never
seen it in Ketchikan. For Misty Fjords, check out "Misty's Place" at
http://bfu.avsim.net.

These last two are not part of VATSIM, though they may fly on the
VATSIM network. Certainly the orientation of VATSIM has been toward the
big jets. That has started changing over the last several months.
Oakland center now has a regular VFR event every Tuesday, and St. Louis
center has a similar event on Sundays. Santa Monica tower (KSMO) in
Southern California is open most evenings (local time) for VFR traffic,
and there are several VFR flying clubs that operate on VATSIM.

I don't know about Alaska, but there's plenty of VFR flying on Vatsim. I
only fly GA online, and actually prefer providing ATC to VFR because it's
more interesting. It can get very boring forever saying "turn right
heading 200 degrees, report established runway 23"!
