Audio Problems

Hiya guys:

My audio seems to have a mind of its own lately , It will
mute itself or start muting and unmuting itself really
quickly, like rapid fire, mute unmute, mute unmute. what
could be the problem here? I have checked my connections
and run defrag. I am on XP home and recently downlaoded
SP2. Any help would me much appreciated.

or updated sound drivers from web site,, usally though sound drivers are not
updated,, some sound chip makers do update though as well.
